TOPICS:

8:30 - 9:00 am Socialize:  coffee, orange juice, muffins
9:00 - 11:15 am ANSYS 7.1 and 8.0 Update Topics
by Shawn Catlin and Dan Vasalini, Mallett Technolgy

Notes:

1. Be aware - ANSYS 8.0 won't run under WindowsNT 4.0

2. ANSYS 8.0 WBE can be installed over a network using the "Network Install Wizard"

3. ANSYS 8.0 has curve fitting for material models (including hyperelasticity and explicit creep)  ANSYS docs. should explain exactly what measured data needs to be supplied.

4. In the (near ?) future, CFX will become the  CFD solution inside WBE; Flotran will remain the CFD solution inside traditional ANSYS.  Further in the future, both CFD programs may be added, each to the other ANSYS product.

11:15 am - noon ANSYS Paramesh, mesh morphing product by Steve Pilz and J.D.B, ANSYS Inc.

Notes:  This is a pretty slick tool - it works on a finite element mesh from any source (nodes & elements only - NO solid model) and it allows PARAMETRIC adjustment of the part !!!  You've got to see it to believe it and even then you won't believe its as good as it looks, but Mr. Pilz assures me that it is good.

noon - 1:15 pm Lunch:  Garden Tossed Salad, Chicken Cordon Blue with Wine and Mushroom Sauce, Italian Stuffed Shells, Assorted Sodas, Cookies
1:15 pm DesignModeler (AGP) by Shawn Catlin and Dan Vasalini, Mallett Technolgy

Notes:

1. We should ALL begin using the Workbench Environment (WBE) - in the "future," WBE will become the standard and new developments will be added to the WBE.  Until, that time, the "Traditional ANSYS" interface will still have most of the enhancements and capabilities.

2. From within the WBE, you can still read in a text file of ANSYS commands (with or without parameters)    [On the Project Page of WBE, click on "Link to an ANSYS APDL Input File"]

3. From the DesignModeler in the WBE of ANSYS 8.0, you can write out an ANF file, then read it into "Traditional ANSYS"
[When the "project" is open in DesignModeler, click on "Export", then change the file type to ANF]
Of course, this means you must have a license for DesignModeler.

2:30 pm DesignXplorer and DesignXplorerVT (Variational Technology) by Shawn Catlin and Dan Vasalini, Mallett Technolgy

Notes:

1. There are TWO products:  DesignXplorer and DesignXplorerVT

2. DesignXplorer is classical DOE by factorial plan

3. DesignXplorerVT is based on Taylor Series expansion and fits much more complex behavior IN MUCH LESS TIME than the factorial approach.

4:00 pm Closing and Adjournment
